This is real-world music. It goes beyond traditional academic training. This is how the "best of the best" think and how they do it. Many times, when you hear a really good guitar player, you have no idea where the notes are coming from because they aren't coming from any particular fingering or scale. The notes are not only coming from the notes inside the scale (the "in" notes), but are also coming from other notes that are very close to but are outside of the scale. Talented players are able to resolve these "outside" notes to the "in" notes of the inside scale.
It's all about freedom, having "no wrong notes" or access to "all notes". It takes every note and analyzes its effect on any chord or any key giving you the ability to play any note at any time.
This doesn't mean that you are randomly choosing notes. There is a very specific method to doing this. There is the tension and resolution of a melodic idea that drives the choice of the notes. Therefore, you have access to all notes, but not in some random order or meaningless fashion. You will learn to use notes in a logical way to create melody.
The most melodic and harmonically innovative playing comes out of this kind of concept.
As you study and experience this approach, it will become more and more available to you as a natural tool, so that when you analyze any style of music (or your favorite artist), you will be able to do so with confidence and success. You will also be able to conceptually use those ideas and apply them to your own playing.
This system also replaces many years of ear training by using visualization. For example, instead of having to take 5 years of ear training to learn to hear a "b5 interval", you are going to learn to visualize the "sound" of the b5 interval.
