The end of the school year is here, so this makes our last “Using Technology in Music Education” until the fall. We have lots of exciting ideas to help you use computers in teaching music. We send this newsletter two or three times a year - if you would rather not receive the newsletter, please see the end of this message.

Music Technology Curricula
There are two new resources that make using technology in your classroom easy and effective! You don't have to spend your whole summer learning software, developing lesson plans and hoping that everything will work in the fall. Instead, check out Cubase Classroom Resource Kit and MixCraft for the Classroom.
Steinberg's Cubase Classroom Resource Kit is an incredible new tool for teaching music to 11-18 year olds in schools. It includes everything you need to offer a wide range of innovative, modern music lessons by using Cubase Studio 4 or Cubase 4. You certainly get what you pay for, with 370 pages of detailed lesson plans and activities along with two easy-to-navigate content DVD’s. One DVD provides printable PDF worksheets and assessment materials along with video tutorials. The other DVD provides original music as multi-track Cubase projects, audio files, audio loops, MIDI files and video files which is one of my favorite parts of this curriculum.
There are 74 learning activities giving more than 100 hours of instruction so you can use this to supplement your regular instruction, or to develop a music technology course. You can find out all of the details at http://kellysmusic.net/productinfo.asp?id=889524984
Mixcraft for the Classroom includes a teacher resource book containing interactive field tested lessons that integrate the popular Mixcraft software into the classroom. The goal of the lessons is to connect music, technology, and interdisciplinary subjects by expanding student thinking, learning, creativity, and communication. You can find out more about Mixcraft at http://kellysmusic.net/productinfo.asp?id=-17637993 and read all about the curriculum at http://kellysmusic.net/productinfo.asp?id=2081398012 Both Mixcraft and the curriculum are very inexpensive - licenses are as little as $12.50 per computer!
Music History Made Fun!
Looking for a fun and engaging way to teach music history? Technology provides the ideal opportunity to provide students with a comprehensive musical experience combining music, video, scores and more. Hal Leonard recently released the Classical Destinations series that introduces the world of classical music to young people in grades five through twelve. Taking a geographical approach, students take a journey through the music and culture of a particular country. The six destinations include Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Russia and Scandinavia, or you can purchase all 6 in one package. Each destination includes kit video, audio, MIDI, interactive quizzes and specially-designed orchestral scores to introduce key concepts of classical music. You can find the complete package of countries at http://kellysmusic.net/productinfo.asp?id=-1008784360 and to read more about each individual country, just click on the title in the “Related Products” section.
We hope you have found this newsletter to be helpful. In the fall issue we will update our popular "Recording Student Performances" article and talk about some exciting ways of managing your music. In the meantime, be sure to check our blog for the latest music technology news. You might also want to join our newsletter to keep informed of what's happening in the music technology world.
