Manufacturer: SOUND QUEST
Platform: Win

Infinity 2.0 is a Virtual Device Studio for creating and playing synthesizers, samplers, digital audio effects, MIDI processors and interactive media tools. Infinity includes a library of over 360 configurable modules which connect together to form unique and infinitely customizable devices. Additional modules will be available monthly as downloads from the Internet.

Infinity also acts as a host for DXi and VST instruments as well as Direct X and VST effects. You can integrate these anywhere in the audio chain and use them in any combination imaginable.

Building your own virtual instruments is as easy as clicking, pointing and linking up each of the necessary modules together. You can build virtually any audio effect, synth, or sampler you can imagine... Unlock your potential today!

Infinity 2.0 supports all the major plug-in formats including VST, DXi, DirectX 8.0 and MFX. Any instrument or effect created in Infinity can be plugged into Cubase, SONAR, Cakewalk, Sound Forge or any other program which supports these standards.

Infinity 2.0 also includes Infinity Player, a freely distributable stand-alone program that runs instruments and effects created in Infinity without requiring either the Infinity software or a plug-in equipped host program - Sharing and distributing your creations has never been this free or easy!

Every virtual instrument built with Infinity has a patch view and a panel view: The patch is where the instrument or processor’s internal structure is defined, while the panel contains the user interface. There are over 30 different controls including knobs, faders, switches, buttons, envelopes, oscilloscopes, and VU meters, most of which can be “skinned” with custom bitmaps to give your instruments the exact look and feel you’re after.

Panel controls are fully automated in Infinity: Every knob tweak or slider pull made in DXi, VSTi, VST, and DirectX can either be recorded by a sequencer module when the instrument runs in Infinity or can be saved as native automation events by the host application when the instrument runs as a plug-in.

Infinity 2.0 also introduces the tree view: This innovative folder-type view details the internal organization of every virtual instrument created in Infinity. The hierarchy of the patch from the root level down to its smallest sub-component is presented as a directory structure of folders, making the creation and management of extremely complex instruments practical and even easy. Clicking on any folder in the tree view opens the corresponding patch view, allowing direct access to all the modules and connections at that level.

Also included with Infinity 2.0 is an extensive collection of synthesizers, organs, drum kits and audio processing effects that work right out of the box. There are also over 140 commonly used components such as ADSR envelopes, compressors and digital audio mixers provided as Macros which make creating brand new instruments a virtual snap!

Introduction
Infinity 2.0 is a powerful and intuitive real-time audio development platform. An extensive set of modules – there are over 360 of them – provide the building blocks you use to create your own audio tools. Building your instrument is as easy as clicking, pointing and linking up each of the necessary elements together. You can make virtually any audio effect, synth, or sampler you can imagine as an Infinity Patch.

Far more than a virtual device creator, Infinity 2.0 fully supports all of the Microsoft Windows audio and MIDI plug-in formats such as DXi, VSTi, VST, DirectX 8.0 and MFX: This means your Infinity Patch files can plug into SONAR, Cubase, Logic, Cakewalk Pro Audio, Sound Forge, Cool Edit Pro or Samplitude to name but a few!

Even better, Infinity 2.0 includes a collection of instruments and effects you can use in your music right now. Choose from 23 synthesizers (including straight ahead 1, 2, and 3 oscillator synths, organs, FM synths, and string machines), 2 drum kits, or 42 different audio processing effects and you're ready to go. Each instrument has its own unique and customizable interface and the selection will continue to grow as new instruments are added for download from this web site.

The Patch View
In Infinity 2.0, the default view for new patches is the Patch View, which will look very familiar to anyone who has used a graphic music control environment such as MAX, Tassman or DSPider. This window is where you insert components (Objects) and wire them together with virtual cords to produce whatever device you can imagine.

While the patch view is straightforward for editing small patches containing up to 10 objects or so, most patches will grow to be much larger as more objects and wiring are added to them. One of the biggest problems when dealing with such large patches is organization -It is far too easy to become lost scrolling through a maze of connections and objects.

Infinity has a solution to this problem: It's called the Tree View.
The Tree View
Infinity 2.0's Tree View encourages patch designers to organize their work into multiple levels. The main level is called the root of the patch, while the sub-levels are organized into SubPatch objects.

The left pane of the Tree View window contains icons that represent the various levels of the patch, while the right pane gives access to the objects on the currently selected level. You can move from the root down to the deepest level of each system it contains with only a few clicks of your mouse.

The <> icon in the tree view allows you to look at the top level of the patch organization. This is like examining an electronic circuit board from a few feet away: All of the chips and their connections are visible, but the complex circuitry is hidden away. The difference with the tree view is that you're free to step inside and edit any of the chips whenever you want!

Infinity 2.0's Panel View provides a place where every control in a patch can be laid out in a professional and friendly way. The control objects such as knobs, sliders, buttons, comments and keyboards inserted at every level of a patch also appear in this extremely customizable view.

You are free to reorganize the panel view any way you like by selecting and moving the control objects that are there. What's more, you can also "skin" the background and controls with bitmaps of your own design: The Demo Controller patch shown above uses custom background and button bitmaps to achieve a retro-eighties look and feel.

The Panel View also functions as the user interface when a patch is loaded as a plug-in by another audio program such as Cubase, Sonar and Guitar Studio. This is why ergonomics and style are so important here.

Infinity & Beyond...
The patches you create can be used within all major sequence and sound editing applications. The following plug-in versions of Infinity are included free with Infinity 2.0, and make this possible:

Infinity DXi: Plugs into Cakewalk's SONAR DXi plug-in synthesizer architecture, allowing you to run digital synthesis and MIDI processing patches inside SONAR.

Infinity VSTi: Plugs into Steinberg's VST 2.0 architecture found in Cubase 3.7 and up, allowing you to run digital synthesis and MIDI processing patches within Cubase.

Infinity VST: Plugs into Steinberg's VST architecture, allowing you to run audio processing patches directly in Cubase and all other VST compliant host programs.

Infinity DX: Runs in any application supporting Microsoft's DirectX audio processing interface. This includes most PC sequencers and audio editing applications.

Infinity MFX: Plugs into the Cakewalk's MFX MIDI processing architecture found in Cakewalk v8, Guitar Studio v2 and up. This allows you to create, store, and run patches right within the host sequencer, and like Cakewalk’s own MIDI FX, your patches can be applied non-destructively to Mixer tracks in real time.

Infinity Player: A freely distributable version of Infinity that can host patches as a stand alone program- This version cannot build patches, but is perfect for demonstrating and sharing your creations.
